Sam Lo (b. 1986) is a Singaporean artist working on how something is granted or denied official status- and what happens in the gap.

Prosecuted in 2012 for marking public space, and thirteen years later appointed to be involved in the same state's national spectacle, Lo has occupied every position in the system the work examines. Across participatory apparatuses, public intervention, sculpture, painting and archive, the work asks what confers legitimacy on a culture, an object, a wall, a life- and who is permitted to issue it.

Lo has exhibited internationally across museums, festivals and contemporary art platforms, including Light to Night Festival (Singapore, 2024), Art Central Hong Kong (2018), Melbourne Festival (2017), Singapore Art Week (2017), and Georgetown Festival (2014). His work has also been presented at the ArtScience Museum, Singapore Art Museum, The Peranakan Museum, and National Gallery Singapore.

Alongside his exhibition practice, Lo has developed an international public art practice through commissions, cultural institutions and street art festivals, creating site-specific works across Europe, North America, Australia and Asia.
