XIV was established as an interventionist extension of RCGNTN, adopting a more proactive approach to engaging with issues within Singapore’s social and cultural landscape. Working through the mediums of art, music and design, the initiative sought to bring matters of public relevance into wider discourse, often employing guerrilla and unconventional forms of communication to provoke reflection and discussion.
The movement operated through collaborations with artists, designers, musicians and industry partners, bringing together individuals from across Singapore’s creative and cultural communities. These collaborations were directed towards addressing issues of local significance and examining the social conditions shaping the community. In doing so, XIV functioned as both a platform for cultural intervention and an attempt to contribute to the formation of a more distinct and self-defined local culture.
