Greetings From Singapore

"This show is about the realities of Singaporean life. Or rather it is about one artist’s questioning of why those realities exist. SKL0/ Sam Lo is an artist obsessed with the way the city’s inhabitants interact with the urban landscape, and how their lives are directed by social expectations and norms, government directive and collective habit. SKL0 questions what it means to be a citizen, to live in an ostensibly free state in which behaviours are observed by security cameras and in which crossing the road at the ‘correct’ time is a matter of obligation. SKL0 observes these everyday happenings and then, to paraphrase Paul Klee, takes them for a walk." - Viv Lawes
The exhibition features photographs of SKL0'S interventions past and present, providing tangible and permanent documentation of the street artist's practice, dominantly works tied to the 'Sticker Lady' Saga in 2012. With the impermanence and transient nature of street art, these photos serve as preservation of fleeting encounters that ironically, caused a ripple through the socio-political landscape upon the artist's arrest in 2012.
The exhibition also serves as a framework for the launch of their book, also titled Greetings from Singapore.
