This investigation considers the future not as a single destination, but as a field of possibilities shaped by the choices, systems and values we establish in the present. It emerged from an interest in imagining alternatives to the structures that currently organise society: alternative worlds, alternative forms of exchange and alternative ways of understanding value, responsibility and human connection.

Works such as Cause and Effect and Shared Responsibility approach the future through questions of consequence and collective action, particularly in relation to the environment and the systems that sustain life. Other works, including the LOCI series, approach the future through escapism and the construction of portals into imagined realities. Together, these works reflect an interest in the space between the world as it exists and the worlds that might yet be possible.

This investigation also extends into experiments with alternative systems of value and exchange. The barter markets and projects developed through INDIGOISM, including Elevate, which combined binaural sound and virtual reality, explored the possibility of creating experiences and systems that operate outside more familiar structures of economic and cultural value. These projects considered what might happen when value is placed on participation, exchange, experience and imagination rather than solely on ownership or monetary accumulation.

Underlying these works is an understanding that the future is not only something to predict, but something to construct. It is shaped by the stories we tell, the systems we maintain and the alternatives we are willing to imagine.

The investigation therefore moves between environmental responsibility, technological possibility, escapism, collective imagination and alternative economies. It asks what kinds of worlds might emerge if we were to reconsider the assumptions that currently govern how we live, exchange, consume and relate to one another.

To imagine alternative futures is, ultimately, to question the inevitability of the present.
